A lot of formerly unsuccessful traders finally wised up, put their egos in a bag and entered the world of robotic trading, but finding a robot for Forex can get expensive.  There’s the rub.

Unfortunately, many of the ‘robots’ that come up for sale aren’t exactly what the trader had imagined, and many are very expensive software programs that simply alert the trader to signals it detects.  It would be impossible to describe the frustrations of finally finding the ‘signals’ you’ve pre-determined to be critical (based on some ‘guru’s’ seminar that cost you dearly), double-checking the robot’s work, setting up and executing the trade, and enduring the pain as the seconds (or minutes) tick by waiting to see where you got ‘in’.  All-too-often the market seems to change course before your trade goes through. Ouch!

The determined trader gives up on this program and calls it “tuition”.  If they really see the vast fortunes that robots are making for mediocre traders, they’ll usually take it to the next level and get a robot that will spot the potential trade (based on the signals they got at that market guru’s seminar)–and set it up!  All the trader has to do is, “pull the trigger”.

Profitable trading is certainly more common is certainly more profitable at this level of automation, but it ain’t a bowl of cherries either.  Even at this level, traders still find themselves staring anxiously at the computer screen hour after endless hour, only now it’s not ‘fun’, it’s work.

What about family, and fun time?

The committed trader keeps searching for a ‘better’ robot trade assistant, and each comes with a pretty proud price tag.  The tuition keeps adding up…

With some good fortune, they’ll stumble upon the robot that changed my trading life forever.  I was just ‘lucky’ to find it first and begin seeing the profits pile up from the very start of my robot trading career.  I was curious, too, and continue to use my profits to try out every robot I can.

I usually have three running at any one time.  At the end of the month, I simply check to see which was the least performer, and replace it with another.

Amazingly, the first robot I bought is still on my “active” list and it looks like it will be for a very long time.  My quest for the “best” has become my hobby.  The only robots I will even look at these days are fully-automatic, meaning I simply activate them in a trading account and walk away, until the next month.

The costs involved in my hobby can be staggering with prices going as high as $100,000.00 for a single robot.  In the early days of robot trading I remember renting ‘time’ on a Russian robot that was said to be valued (at that time) at over $60 Million!  That’s not what I paid in ‘rent’, and I do have to say it didn’t lose me any money, but it wasn’t even close to giving the results I get from my first one…and it’s still available for under 200.00!

It just goes to show that in finding a robot for Forex, the ‘most expensive’ is not necessarily the “best”!

What do I think?  I think it’s like the old adage suggests: “Pioneers get slaughtered, but settlers prosper.”

There are so many claims made about FX trading software by so many vendors that it is staggering.  As the newbie dutifully does his/her research, they almost find that the one they’re looking at right now is always ‘better’ than the last one.  The problem is, this can be a never ending search that leaves the newbie trader scratching his/her head and paralyzed by the fear of choosing “the wrong one” or at least, “not choosing the best one”.  Nothing ever comes of their efforts, and that’s too bad because ‘you can’t profit if you don’t trade’.

My first piece of trading software cost me over $4,000.00 and all it did was show me a screen with my currency pairs listed and then a series of arrows that turned green or red to indicate the by-the-second changes that make a trade profitable.  All I had to do was ‘place the trade’.  Sounds great, huh?  Well, it would have been nice if somebody had told me the ‘feed’ for this really cool, top-o-the-line FX trading software program ran about 2 minutes behind the market.  It was, in effect showing me what the market had already done and seconds are like eternities in the trading game.

And it would have been nice if the software folks had told me that I should anticipate delays in executing my trades after I hit the button.  It would have been nice, and cost me a lot less ‘tuition’ for my Forex education.

Lucky for me, a friend recommended a fully automatic, real time robot to do my trades.  That way, he said, we could spend the afternoons on the golf course, and in Paris or some other great place with our wives on the weekends.

I took his advice and I still let that robot do all of my trading.  Since then, I’ve changed my tactics in regard to Forex trading, I test robots.  Since my first choice was/is so profitable, I can afford to work my way through the market to see for myself which perform the best.  My business model is this:  I keep 3 robots going in my accounts.  The least % performer is cast aside every month (if it’s really close, I’ll extend the test).
